I’ll admit that I can be a terrible friend. I’m not a huge fan of talking on the phone because I feel like I am taking up a considerable amount of their time—especially since I do not like to multitask whenever I’m on the phone. I like to give the other person my full attention—but that’s personal preference. But because of this, I have lost touch with many of my friends who I no longer live near.
But the one thing I love about all my friends, regardless of how close we are, is that whenever we are together—there is never the awkward feeling. Instead, we pick up from where we left off as if nothing happened.
Case in point—my best friend Brittany. We’ve been friends since high school. We met each other a couple times our freshman year because we had mutual friends. It wasn’t until our sophomore year that we immediately became best friends. We had 5 out of our 7 classes together and we had more in common than we could have imagined. From then on, we were inseparable. We worked together at IKEA—and we were known as the twins who never left each other’s side. Our managers knew to schedule our shifts together. We went through a lot together from dating best friends, to both of our parents getting divorced at the same time. We went our separate ways when we went to college. I went to Virginia Tech (the better of the Virginia schools) and she went to the University of Virginia (BOOO HOOOs). While we only talked on occasion, we would try to visit each other whenever possible and would always spend our breaks together.
Since then, she has gotten married (see the amazing bridal shower I threw her!) and is about to graduate from medical school. Although we may not spend as much time together as we would like, we are still each other’s best friend.
I received this series of texts from her on Sunday…
No package was waiting for me in the apartment office when I checked on Monday--so the Popcorn Factory did, in fact, get an angry phone call from a sub-100 pound asian girl. The Popcorn Factory apologized and offerred to ship another package.
Later that night, look what I came home to! My package arrived! YUM!
Oh and did I mention I somehow convinced her to run our first long distance race together? In 2010, we ran the Army 10 Miler together. I was so happy to experience our first race together.

Old friends are the best. I'm headed to Boston tomorrow to see my post college roommate, it's been almost 2 years, since I've seen here and probably 10 years since we've had a girls night, before husbands(both) and kids (her). I am super excited!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and good times! I'm glad you came over and entered my friendship giveaway! We're thinking alike today! Hugs! ♥
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post! Nothing is better than a conversation (text/phone) with an old friend.
